In the spirit of the holiday season, below is the first December Metaphor Minute newsletter from 2007. Its message is as true today as it was then, if not more so. To get noticed and remembered, think creatively--think metaphorically.

And Yours Was... ?


How many holiday cards have you received? Can you remember who sent them? Will people remember which card you sent?

One company whose card won't be lost among their clients is Kansas City based ad agency Nicholson Kovac. The cover of their red oblong card reads, "May your holidays be wrapped with joy and filled with happiness." Nothing new there.

BUT, when you open the card, you see a gray ribbon about 1" wide lying flat in a card pouch. It is not immediately clear what you are looking at. Then, you notice the instruction to pull two thin strings on the back of the card and suddenly the ribbon slowly and magically folds itself into a big beautiful gift bow. Inside, the copy reads, "Celebrate the season of giving. On your behalf, Nicholson Kovac is wrapping up all the holiday shopping for two needy families. It is our way of sharing our gifts with those around us." Signed NK.

What a metaphorically clever way to send greetings of the season to friends and clients that will be remembered by all who receive them.
