In the last week, by coincidence, I found myself mentoring a young woman entrepreneur, giving career advice as one of five panel members to a group in a communications program at a local university, and running a workshop for Dress For Success—all of which were immensely rewarding experiences. The entrepreneur was excited by what I told her. The students, who, to me are super-human, since many of them work during the day, go to school at night, and take care of families as well, were very grateful for our help, and the DFS ladies, who have really struggled to get where they are today, couldn’t stop thanking me for the insights they got from our session that they saw themselves using back on the job. I was humbled by all of them.
As we begin the holiday season, these experiences reminded me how important it is to support the dreams and aspirations of others. The old saying that “It is better to give than to receive” really does mean something. So, give thanks this Thursday for what you have and in the coming weeks, I encourage you to help a group, a cause, or an individual. It will be the best present you can give yourself.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
